The Men Who Stare At Goats
RRP: $29.98Our Price: $7.98 (subject to change)Editorial Description
In this comedic look at real life events that are almost too bizarre to believe, reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) discovers an experimental top-secret wing of the U.S. military called The New Earth Army, trained to change the ways wars are fought through New Age psychic power. In search of his next big story, Wilton tracks down Lyn Cassady (Academy Award® winner George Clooney), a shadowy figure who claims to be a member of this legion of “Warrior Monks” with unparalleled psychic powers who can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it.

Hard to define but easy to enjoy, The Men Who Stare at Goats is the preposterous yet more-true-than-not story of a small-town journalist named Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) who, trying to prove himself in Iraq, stumbles upon a man named Lyn Cassady (George Clooney) who claims to be a psychic spy for the U.S. Army. With dazzling cinematic efficiency, the movie bounces back and forth between the origins of the New Earth Army--a squad of American Jedi warriors--and Bob and Lyn wandering through war-torn Iraq, pursuing a mission that turns out to have been assigned by a vision. The movie shifts from giddy comedy to melancholy as a portrait of human pettiness, manifested in military paranoia and corporate greed, unfolds. The ending loses a bit of steam, but most of The Men Who Stare at Goats is a delight--unusual yet satisfying, funny and thoughtful in turns. Jeff Bridges plays--of course--the addled yet charismatic founder of the New Earth Army, while Kevin Spacey plays--of course--the weaselly, manipulative psychic spy who turns what was meant to transform the world for the better into a mechanism for propaganda and worse. Adapted from the bestselling nonfiction book of the same title by British journalist Jon Ronson, The Men Who Stare at Goats niftily balances surface lunacy with serious undercurrents, buoyed by excellent performances from all involved. --Bret Fetzer

Walked out of this one in the theater.Review date: 2010-07-30 Rating: 2 out of 10HORRIBLE MOVIE.
NOT FUNNY. BORING.
NO REAL STORY.
I WAS WITH A GROUP OF 8 PEOPLE AND ALL OF US HATED IT SO MUCH THAT WE LEFT THE THEATER. A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME. IT WAS SO BAD I THINK A LARGE PORTION OF BRAIN CELLS DIED WHILE WATCHING THIS MOVIE. THANKS GEORGE C. FOR A TERRIBLE AFTERNOON!
ReviewsA strange little movie.Review date: 2010-07-26 Rating: 8 out of 10I thought I knew what this movie was about before I saw it.
I was NOT prepared for a comedy. I thought the majority of the film would be presented in a serious fashion.
I was wrong, and happy I was wrong.
Let's get to it.
The good.
Great acting from everyone in the movie, Clooney and McGregor are hilarious.
Taught direction.
Perfect pacing.
This is a movie for all of us "outcasts".
Ever feel weird?
Ever feel like you didn't fit in?
See this movie, you'll feel much better.
The bad.
Nothing really.
Just don't expect a serious look into government funded psychic research.
All in all a great and strange movie.
A little on the touching side toward the end.
I'll give it my recommendation.
STAR WARS PREQUELReview date: 2010-07-25 Rating: 10 out of 10Ewan McGregor revives his role as a young Obi-wan (named Bob before he took a Jedi name) who first learns about "the force" through soldiers part of an army experiment. Eventually he will train Darth Vader, the spawn of Kevin SPACEY. George Clooney, who has mastered the dark side of the force will give birth to a race of SITH. Okay, so this isn't this movie...but it could be. The movie is a satire, not just about government psych experiments, but about human belief in the supernatural. This movie is certainly not for everyone, and if you had trouble watching other Cohen films, save your time on this one. Language and very brief nudity.Men who Stare At GoatsReview date: 2010-07-19 Rating: 6 out of 10The Men Who Stare At Goats
Was a strange movie. It was ok, but not as good as some of the other movies that George Clooney has been in.Another Coen brothers masterpiece!Review date: 2010-07-15 Rating: 10 out of 10Along the same vein as "Brother where art thou?", the Coen brothers humor is evidenced masterfully in this film. Starts out slowly, but don't give up---it's priceless! Great service from the seller.
