Daniel Craig hasn't lost a step since Casino Royale--this James Bond remains dangerous, a man who could earn that license to kill in brutal hand-to-hand combat… but still look sharp in a tailored suit. And Quantum of Solance itself carries on from the previous film like no other 007 movie, with Bond nursing his anger from the Casino Royale storyline and vowing blood revenge on those responsible. For the new plot, we have villain Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), intent on controlling the water rights in impoverished Third World nations and happy to overthrow a dictator or two to get his way. Olga Kurylenko is very much in the "Bond girl" tradition, but in the Ursula Andress way, not the Denise Richards way. And Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright, and Giancarlo Giannini are welcome holdovers. If director Marc Forster and the longtime Bond production team seem a little too eager to embrace the continuity-shredding style of the Bourne pictures (especially in a nearly incomprehensible opening car chase), they nevertheless quiet down and get into a dark, concentrated groove soon enough. And the theme song, "Another Way to Die," penned by Jack White and performed by him and Alicia Keys, is actually good (at times Keys seems to be channeling Shirley Bassey--nice). Of course it all comes down to Craig. And he kills. --Robert Horton
Yes he's damaged goods.. we get it. Unfortunately so is the movie.Review date: 2010-08-25 Rating: 2 out of 10They were so concerned throughout the film of making the point that Bond was damaged goods.. that he was broken.. that he was sad. They used every bit of symbolism they could think of. [Fun game, try to count how many times you see broken glass.] Enough already. This movie lacks the writing, the wit, and the intelligence of the past Bond greats. After a promising reboot of the franchise with Casino Royal, this movie falls flat on so many levels. Skip the martini and start doing shots before watching.
ReviewsJames Bond finally diedReview date: 2010-08-25 Rating: 4 out of 10When I say James Bond, whats one thing that come up in mind? gadgets, tricks, spy stuff..etc.. where was that in this movie? this movie was boring. I really wanted to be enjoy this movie and to make me watch it over and over again... instead it delivered a love story and a hide and go seek plot.!
plot left some to be desired...Review date: 2010-08-23 Rating: 6 out of 10I dont really care about what they were trying to save, so that hurt the movie for me.What happened???Review date: 2010-08-10 Rating: 6 out of 10I have always waited for the next Bond film. I have them all in DVD. But I am hestitant for the next one (if the series doesn't sink with MGM) if it has the same director. I would have given this 5 stars but for the cinematogaphy. This is a great story, but the use of >.5 sec per action shots had me asking myself, "What just happened?". You could actually miss things if you blink at the wrong time. I got to the point that I actually looked away during the action scenes because of the rapidity between shots. I couldn't keep up with them. In dvd, I am able to fast forward through those scenes.
This was a good story, and great to end the last movie and start this one like they did. Just need to slow it down.Perfect but for two things...Review date: 2010-08-04 Rating: 8 out of 10The first of the two things are the fights are getting a tad...unrealistic. I felt sorry for the car in the first scene and the hotel in the last part of the movie. Also, Agent Fields. Check out her first name in the credits. But enough of that. The rest of the movie is perfect and why? Because Daniel Craig is the best James Bond up to date.
His manner of speech, his walk, the style of his fighting. He is a mean SOB, who plans to survive and will do anything to kill you. He is not nice and he isn't fair, and he rarely uses a pun or cracks a bad joke when somebody dies. He IS still the 007 from the books and as long as they allow him to stay that way I will continue to watch the films when they come out in the theater and will continue to buy the DVDs when they are released.
The DVD has the trailers and the music video, but the movie is the reason to buy it. Used or new, get it.
