Daniel Craig hasn't lost a step since Casino Royale--this James Bond remains dangerous, a man who could earn that license to kill in brutal hand-to-hand combat… but still look sharp in a tailored suit. And Quantum of Solance itself carries on from the previous film like no other 007 movie, with Bond nursing his anger from the Casino Royale storyline and vowing blood revenge on those responsible. For the new plot, we have villain Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), intent on controlling the water rights in impoverished Third World nations and happy to overthrow a dictator or two to get his way. Olga Kurylenko is very much in the "Bond girl" tradition, but in the Ursula Andress way, not the Denise Richards way. And Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright, and Giancarlo Giannini are welcome holdovers. If director Marc Forster and the longtime Bond production team seem a little too eager to embrace the continuity-shredding style of the Bourne pictures (especially in a nearly incomprehensible opening car chase), they nevertheless quiet down and get into a dark, concentrated groove soon enough. And the theme song, "Another Way to Die," penned by Jack White and performed by him and Alicia Keys, is actually good (at times Keys seems to be channeling Shirley Bassey--nice). Of course it all comes down to Craig. And he kills. --Robert Horton

Being a James Bond fan since Dr No,I see the Bond films declining with every new film.If you haven't seen Casino Royall, you will never figure this Bond out .All the plot lines seemed to have vanished, replaced by disconnected action.I buy as I have all the others, but I do not know why.

Horrible trash

This movie is unwatchable. I'm sorry I paid money for it. Daniel Craig is a nightmare Bond. No class, no charm, no humanity. He happens to be Jason in a Bond role. What has happened to this once great series? Craig is just the worst Bond I have ever seen. Do they actually pay this guy? It seems more like Craig paid the producers for the role. His face looks like it spent months in a meat grinder. There is absolutely no angle where his face can't damage the lens. Must go through a dozen broken cameras a day. And the plot is god awful. Psychopathic agent on murderous rampage to avenge the death of girlfriend. Thats it. Nothing more to say. Nothing to see. Will there ever be a time again when Bond does any spying? Do you have to go back to Connery to see any espionage? The Bond series has steadily gone down hill since Connery and got a little better with Goldeneye but then continued back on its downhill course shortly after. It really fell off a cliff with this movie. Why don't the Brocoli family sell the franchise to some people with talent? Whoever is running the show has no business making a hot dog let alone a movie. This garbage has Cubbie rolling in his grave. I will never watch another Bond movie until the producer and the actor is changed.

Unwatchable, unless you drink a full pot of coffee beforehand

I don't think there's any doubt that Daniel Craig makes a good James Bond. The problem with 2008's "Quantum of Solace", the 22nd Bond film and Craig's second, is the rapid-fire editing during the action scenes. Take, for instance, the opening chase-sequence that takes place on the tollway that leads through mountain tunnels from Nice through Monte Carlo and down to Portofino in Italy. It's a spectacularly scenic area. Unfortunately you won't see it here; more importantly, you'll hardly understand what's going on due to the moronic fast editing. The camera switches about 3 or 4 times per second! I have no doubt that the filmmakers think such quick angle changes convey energy, but when it's done this fast all it does is confuse, disorient and annoy the viewer. It wouldn't be so bad if this was the only sequence put together like this but, no, after Bond's initial meeting with M (Judi Dench) there's another ridiculous rapid-fire action scene.

For the next film I hope the filmmakers get a grip on this fact: James Bond is not a mindless action hero! He's too smart for that. He's the ultimate 'cool' attitude. Violence for him is an irritation resorted to when necessary. He exists for the the mental play, the checkmate, the cigarette and, later, the martini, shaken, not stirred. The babe too, of course.

The only way any viewer can successfully make it past the 25-minute mark of "Quantum of Solace" is if s/he drinks a full pot of heavily-caffeinated coffee beforehand.
